Need help with my school credits?

Need help with my school credits?
Okay a long time ago when my brother was a freshman, we lived in El Paso, Texas... then in his sophomore we moved to Madison, Wisconsin. Now he got pretty angry cause it messed up his "credits" and wouldn't be able to go to some good colleges he wanted to go to. What does that mean?? Cause I live In Alabama(which I Iove) but my parents want to move to Texas.... now i'm kinda nervous cause I think it'll mess up my credits.. Please help me. I'm a sophomore right now. I really plan on going to college in alabama like Aurburn or UAH

Different states and districts have different graduation requirements. That's just the way it is. However, I really doubt that it could "mess you up" or keep you out of a college you could otherwise gain admission to. You might have to take an extra class or two. It is just as likely that you won't. Many times classes can be made-up online, even at home. This is something for the school guidance counselors - your current and future school's - to sort out, and they will. They do it all the time. As soon as you find out where you will be moving, look-up your new school district online. Then make an appointment with your current guidance counselor, and share your information and concerns. He/she can find the details for you, or at least put you in touch with your new counselor. Either way - it's not the end of the world. Relax, find the info you want, and enjoy life. Even if you DO have to take an extra class next year, it's better to know than to keep guessing. Best of luck to you.

Why were these protesters Chanting Viva Mexico and waving Mexican flags why not return back to there ?

Why were these protesters Chanting Viva Mexico and waving Mexican flags why not return back to there ?
EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Thousands of high school students clogged downtown streets Friday during a third day of protests against immigration proposals that call for a crackdown on illegal immigrants. Chanting "Viva Mexico!" and waving Mexican flags, the students converged on a downtown El Paso plaza to join a rally of several hundred others in honor of Cesar Chavez Day. Boisterous teenagers, followed by Chavez supporters waving pictures of the famed union leader, marched through downtown El Paso to a migrant farm worker center near the Mexican border. The group, which caused brief traffic congestion, was escorted by dozens of police officers on bicycles and motorcycles. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, along with other federal agents, stood nearby. A group of chanting and flag-waving students who converged on City Hall were met by a line of police officers in riot helmets. http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2006/03/thousands_of_st.html

if they would all just swim back, they'd have what they are wanting. why don't they just leave us alone or just leave............
2 :
Because they are stupid... I have made this claim 100s of times and i dont have a problem with a guest worker program... What i mean by that is, you are right if they want to stay shouldnt they show US flags and try to show alliagence to the US, why the hell woud you do that?! I do however blame it on ignorance and lack of education, if people knew a little bit better what they where doing then things would be different....
3 :
Compare them to the dog that bites the hand that feeds them.
4 :
This is the example of examples we have been arguing over for quite some time.... The blatant disregard for the US by legals and illegals alike. If one could only step out of the box and read a thing or two about the behavior...we might actually see the masses we have absorbed who have no intention of assimilating or becoming true Americans. Their pledge and allegiance is to Mexico. Beyond the point that these are children joining the march...does that tell anyone the teachings and etc. coming from their homes, families, friends? The best example we could have set, would have been to capture and deport as many illegals converging as possible.
5 :
Did anyone bother to read the dates of these? No I didn't think so. This was over 2 years ago in hopes of the reform bill passing. Talk about reaching to incite a reaction.
6 :
It is sad... Ceaser Chavez fought the illegal aliens most of the time he ran the United Farm Workers.
7 :
Why dont they just go back.
8 :
They don't have rights to do anything in my country. Send them home to wave that flag of their country.
9 :
they can not get the same social programs back there what should have been done and will be shortly as the economy gets worse and the states get tired of footing the bill for citizens not our own, is for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to get a line of buses when these protests take place and bus them across the border after they sterlize them
10 :
As a fellow Mexican, I totally agree with your argument about waving Mexican flags. But, you have to understand these are high school kids without life experience. I agree that every immigrant should wave the U.S flag with dignity, but NOt wave your born country flag in an immigration rally. But please don't get to the point of Generalizing an ethnic Group. Thats the last place anyone wants to be, if they want to be taken seriously.

How do you find openings for teachers in other states?

How do you find openings for teachers in other states?
Is there a web site or something for all available teaching positions in all the states? I live in Maryland and I remember when I was looking for teaching positions my certification program put me on some kind of list and I started getting calls for interviews. But there was never a master list for me to look at. I want to move to El Paso with my boyfriend but I want to know what teaching positions are available. How can I find this out without having to fly down to Texas/call a bunch of schools in Texas?

Try this. It is the state board of education website. There are links to positions available in Texas http://www.tea.state.tx.us/hr/educempres.html
2 :
The above link will serve as a starting point for your search. You will also need to find out how to become certified in Texas. Not all states offer reciprocal certification. El Paso is a large city. Looking on a map of EL Paso, locate a section of the city where you might want to live. Locate surrounding school districts and check out each district's website. Each website should have info from their Human Resources to indiciate what positions are available and how to submit an application. Also check back to that TX State of Ed. website to gather more info about recent test scores and demographics about the districts. I believe TX has also adopted a similar policy that Arizona has in requiring all educators to be ELL/ESL certified. Not 100% sure, but do check into that endorsement. Best of luck to you!

What are the best cities out of this list to live and go to school. This basically includes cost of living, how friendly the city is, how clean the city is, how good the university is,etc. 1.El Paso 2.San Angelo 3.San Antonio 4.Wichita Falls 5.Corpus Christi 6.Waco

5 :
Well the best colleges are in Dallas and Austin. But I live in Harker Heights and I absolutly love it. Im going to college here. Im taking Criminal justice classes and Going to the police academy. But as for the ones you listed WACO would be my favorite.
6 :
Waco, it sounds WACKY
7 :
I live in Austin so I'm biased. Austin. But of your choices.. I think San Antonio if you like a city. Corpus if you like the beach. I don't know about Waco or Wichita Falls (I guess, like College Station, since there's nothing else around they would be conducive to studying). Never been to San Angelo or El Paso.
8 :
san antonio is the best place for schools and jobs and stuff like that and cheapiest. gas.
9 :
I would say Austin or San Angelo. Definitely not El Paso or Waco - both are dumps. The hill country is the best area in Texas (Austin, San Antonio, San Angelo)
10 :
It all depends on what you want to major in, if you choose drug trafficking I would say EP is the best choice or cock fighting then that would be Waco hands down. But overall I think San Antonio is the best place to live out of this list. School wise it has a little of everything, large state school (UTSA) and one of the best private universities in Texas (Trinity).

I agree with Hayley. It's pointless. This country will function, just as it always has. And the Immigration Service should be noting what plants actually do shut down - those are the ones hiring the illegals. Then on May 2nd, it'll be just like the commercial for the bug spray... RAID!!
4 :
They should not protest because they are not citizens. They should focus on reforming Mexico's corrupt political system.
5 :
AWESOME!! the stores will be less crowded.
6 :
Yes, sure I will stay at my house all day long. It is going to be a day that will show what would really happens if there where no immigrants. People say that we are bad for the economy so if this is true the economy will boom on that day. First some people say it is pointless but then they say that they will go and buy many things on that day. Confusing.....Isn't it? If they say that they will go and buy more things on that day is because they know that this boycott will affect the country. And then they say it is pointless! VERY CONFUSING...........................
7 :
Yes I'm protest shopping against illegal aliens and other criminals
8 :
Being a liberal in Texas (pretty much the worst sin around here), I would love to show support, but there is no mobilization around NE Texas as far as I can tell. -Every- American citizen has an illegal immigrant some where in their past, and it's a shame that folks tend to forget that.

Texas A&M or UTEP?

Texas A&M or UTEP?
I'm a junior in high school so I'm starting to look into colleges. I am a Texas resident but I'm going to school in the Dominican Republic. The two schools I like are Texas A&M in college station and University of Texas in El Paso. My house is in El Paso so I'd be w/ family and it would be cheaper. And Texas A&M I saw their site and loved the school. This summer I will be visiting the colleges but I just wanted to hear your opinions on the schools. Also, I want to study Business Administration so which is better? And which one offers better financial aid. In UTEP I won't need tp pay housing. But I liked Texas A&M's business programs better. According to the USPS website, it should only take a first class letter 3 days to arrive. (That usually means add another 2 days.) Then, if it is going to another island other than the main island, give it another day or two... Also remember to take into consideration that the registrar at the school may not mail it out immediately either. Good luck.
2 :
My brother lives in Hawaii, and my father-in-law used to live there. I am sorry to say, but I found that even though the postal service's website says that it takes 3 days for mail to get to the islands, I have found that it might take 3 days to get to the main post office there but it could take longer to get to the destination. Seems like people work at a much slower pace there. So.. it might take awhile for your request to get to the school, they might take their time in responding, I would say give it 2 weeks and if it hasn't been received at the destination in El Paso you should call the school. In the future, try to see if you can fax your request or e-mail it for faster service.

Who do you go to above the school board?

Who do you go to above the school board?
I have a 10 yr old in 4th grade. Ever since we have moved to Texas (we are military) we have had nothing but problems with our son. 2 years ago we had to start him on medication for ADD. Everywhere we have been before Texas has been wonderful school systems. Texas sucks! All they care about is their stupid TAKS testing. They could give a rat's ass about basic learning and understanding. Anyways....my son is the only white kid in his class. We live in El Paso. I AM NOT PREJUDICE, LET'S GET THAT STRAIGHT RIGHT AWAY, but when my son complains about not having anyone to really play with cause 75% of his class only speaks spanish, there's a problem! I belive that if you are going to live in America, please speak the language, english. Anyways, his teacher called me today complaining about him again saying that she is worried about his TAKS test this Wed. He has been complaining about getting bullied again. They still have not fixed the problem. Where do I turn to above the school board?

Take it to the superintendant of the school district. It is a problem that none of those kids speak English. I totally agree, because you know what I would do if I planned on moving to France, learn French!! I swear it should be a requirement to gain citizenship or get a high school diploma here. But you know, it just seems like they'll let anyone in these days. ugh... Seriously though, I would consider private schooling. If you're that close to the border that's all you'll get in public schools.
2 :
Superintendents report to the school board, so contacting him if you've already contacted the school board won't help. You need to contact the school board members individually.
3 :
Every state like it or not has it's own test, that kids have to take. I have had to take the Michigan one and when I was in high school it was the MEAP. If it were up to me, we wouldn't have them, as the only reason I see that they have them, is just a way for someone to make money on them ....As for the whole language thing, Texas is a big time Spanish speaking state like California, that's just the way it it. If you and your son feel the school is not a right fit for him, perhaps see about sending him to another school. One that maybe school of choose or even a private school. I attended a small private school, perhaps that would be better suited for your son. I understand that moving is hard and a big adjustment, especially when your unfamiliar with the place. But you can't make those kids speak English all the time, they probably have spoken mostly Spanish since they could start talking and only talk English when needed. When I went to college at my local college, people were speaking all sorts of languages, it was just something you had to get used to.
4 :
Poor kid. My heart goes out to him. As a homeschooling mom I'd honestly & strongly suggest if you are unhappy with the school system pull him out. Plus since you are a military family and most a lot homeschooling would work for you. I moved A LOT as a kid. From ages 12-17 I was in 5-6 different schools. It was horrible! I dropped out in 10th grade due to many issues and got my GED. But moving a lot was one of the many issues that led to me dropping out. If a child isn't happy in the school they are in they will not do well at all. Yelling, putting the kid on meds, testing them, moving them from class to class will not help. If the child doesn't have the heart for learning in the area they are in then they will not learn. Check out this website: http://oldfashionededucation.com/ My family follows this and it works great for us.
5 :
the superintendent of schools is above the school board.
6 :
i agree consider private school or homeschooling if it's not a good fit for him. certainly if there's spanish being used in the classroom, that's something to raise with the teacher. but if kids are speaking spanish on the playground, i don't see how that's something you can really expect the school to do anything about. those kids are just speaking the language they best understand, just as your son is doing. btw, while english is the most commonly spoken language in the us, it's not "the language". i don't agree that kids out at play have some obligation to speak english. as for being bullied, i'd send something in writing to the school so that they have to do something about it (otherwise they'll be worried about lawsuits.)
7 :
I totally agree with you. This is America- speak English. If you want to speak something else at home, great, but in school and public ENGLISH. El paso schools are HORRIBLE. My husband used to work there on business trips and really got to know that area. I used to live in Texas outside of Dallas and where i lived the schools were GREAT but from what you described it is a problem.Would you consider homeschooling? In Texas all you have to do is sign them out and give the reason of HOMESCHOOL when you do and do it. Alot of military families I've known homeschool because they get moved around alot (depending on their position in the military). Texas is VERY homeschool friendly.
8 :
Call the department of Texas education and file an official complaint about the school if that doesn't work go to the mayors office he will be able to help.

Retinal Detachment Emergency?

Retinal Detachment Emergency?
I have a blind friend that teaches GED at a vocational evening school here in El Paso, Texas. He has been blind since the age of 15. He is now 45 years old.. . A great testament to perseverance and a genuine nice man. His wife is a diabetic and was diagnosed with retinal detachment yesterday. A doctor has stated that she needs corrective surgery in the next two weeks or she will begin to go blind. Bottom line - this couple is poor. Does someone know of a medical group that can help. I used the county hospital for my detached retina. I'm diabetic and I have my eyes checked every year. However, I'm also near-sighted and a double risk for this sort of thing. I would use the county facility and do it now, not in two weeks. You do not have two weeks with this kind of condition. You do not have two days. Hurry Up! Incidentally, the county did an outstanding job of corrective surgery for me. Trust them! You have no choice.
2 :
I would have to agree..this is considered somewhat of a surgical opthomologic emergency and should be taken care of within a day or two. Most county or government facitilites have funds for indigent patients, and many surgeons in an emergency may donate their services. Call the county hospital or better yet, have the patient present to the emergency room. They will assess and admit through the ER.

Surgery is the only way to save vision in that eye. Would she rather see, or not?

I'm a nurse actually and I also work computers as a consultant. They pay very well. I write part time, that pays relatively well too. Nursing is in a critical shortage nationally. As an ADN nurse you can leave with an associate degree and generally move into about 40-50 thousand a year depending on where you work. LPNS which is a one year course usually make about 16 dollars an hour. The field is wide open and requires a lot of new graduates
2 :
Of course it depends on your area, but you can do very well in Dental Hygiene or Respiratory Therapy. You can make in that area with Associates degrees. You can do well with an R.N. which does not require a bachelor's degree. Keep in mind that these are difficult programs and are often very competitive. I know of a career college that opened a Dental Hygiene program and only accepted 25% of of the students who applied the first year they were opened. Now of course they have a waiting list.
