am i an over-achiever? are colleges going to turn me down because of this?

am i an over-achiever? are colleges going to turn me down because of this?
I'm 18 & am a senior in high school. I have been doing the same activities for years. Recently, my best friend told me that I'm an over-achiever. My guidance counselor suggested that I take it easy because colleges are looking for "more average people" these days. I always have my schedule filled. 8 classes a day. All classes have been either honors or college classes. this year's classes & activities: 4:00 am wake up 4:30 barn work 5:30 shower 6:00 make breakfast for family 6:30 get ready 7:45 leave for school 8:00 school starts 1st period, SUPA Spanish (class through syracuse university for advanced spanish, 4 credit hours) 2nd period, College English (through onondaga community college, 4 credit hours) 3rd period AP Biology 4th period Physics 5th period Calculus (through OCC, 4 credit hours) 6th period Lunch 7th period AP psychology 8th period AP government/economics School ends at 2:30 Monday: key club Tuesday: Yearbook Wednesday: Classic rock club Thursday: Big Sister program Friday: Student Council Activities last until 3:15 3:30 arrive home and clean stalls 4:30 eat and drive to work 5:00 work 10:00 get home and do homework 12:00 am go to bed yes i know that i don't get enough sleep. and i do homework during lunch rather than eat. I know this is unhealthy. this has been my lifestyle since 7th grade. Sometimes I have some serious trouble sleeping so I just go to the gym for an hour. My dad owns the farm that i help out on. He does most of the work during the day. I just take care of 10 out of the 50 horses here. I get decent money from this and work (about $1500/month). I work at a recording studio for my dad's friend so I do have time to do homework there, also. I'm also a volunteer firefighter and go to calls over the weekends and while not at work. I have maintained a 3.5 GPA with this same schedule for the past 3 years. I have received either 4s or 5s on my AP exams and 95%+ on regents exams. I also teach horseback riding lessons on the weekends, and work other people's horses for them Are colleges going to think that i'm overdoing it? Is college going to be this hectic with the work load? I'm planning on going to either SU, LeMoyne, or UTEP (in el paso, texas) to become a US History teacher. if i stay in the area, farm work will continue. I forgot to mention my ACT and SAT scores ACT 32 SAT 2190 are these decent? I didn't pay attention to what my highest could have been

I don't think they'd reject you because you do a lot of activities, since this shows an ability to balance school and study/homework time with out-of-school priorities, which is something that is definitely necessary to know how to do in college.
2 :
Girl be yourself...<<colleges are looking for "more average people" these days.>> Foolishness...It's easy to get average people. Colleges are competetive. Keep up the good work but don't stress yourself.
3 :
Wow, I thought I was crazy.... I think it's awesome that you do so much. Maybe slow down a little for health reasons... I don't think you need to worry about colleges turning you down because you're too great. They want great people, don't they?
4 :
you can never do to much for colleges. You really do need to get more sleep though, you won't be able to comtinue like this. Unfortunately, the duties you do for your family are things colleges typically don't care too much about. They won't ask for your daily schedule, they only care about what you're involved in and your grades. Your job will count because its official and it just shows that you can manage a lot of things at once. Good luck!
5 :
If you take on a full load in college you will not be able to maintain even half of this and still maintain a GPA worth the effort. High school homework is usually small potatoes compared to what you will be doing in college. Plan on several hours per class per week, the reading alone will take up most of your time. Colleges want to know you will be figuring in enough time to get your workload complete. And yes colleges are not looking for overachievers, but rather someone who is well rounded and understand the concept of how to relax and have some fun.
6 :
Goodness, no, colleges are not EVER going to say, "We don't like you because you're an overachiever." If you can balance all of that, more power to you! Also, all of that will really make you stand out on all sorts of applications, not just for admittance but also for scholarships and such. It looks like you're going to have a busy year, though... like, I couldn't function on that little sleep. So you might at least consider taking it a little easier, maybe not working as much or something. That's your judgment to make. If you've been handling it for this long, it might just work for you. College is not as hectic! You get to plan your classes how you want them, and they never take as much time of the day, leaving more time to work and get involved in organizations. However, it's even more important not to get behind in college than it ever was in high school, so you might need to set aside more time in college specifically for studying and homework.
7 :
i am a UTEP grad, it would be an awesome choice for you! Also, the population there is very "average" so you would definitely stand out in a good way. Most colleges want people that are well rounded, and it seems you already are. Also, there are probably scholarships that you could apply to that most people wouldn't be able to because of your activities. Keep up the excellent work, stay busy during college so you will have a resume when you graduate. kudos to you and consider being a UTEP miner!
8 :
Dude chill, I thought i was doing alot by going to school, having a girlfriend, working on weekends, and playing football and running track..... But oviously you have whole lot more. College will be easy for you. So just chill out with all that stuff and try to get some sleep in your classes(if you can) And eat a good lunch.
9 :
If your counselor told you colleges are looking for average people, report her to the school board because she is wrecking young lives. It sounds like you're a hard worker, you can probably get into better colleges than the ones you list.

Fired from corrections deputy job 3 yrs ago. Any chance of getting another job in the field?

Fired from corrections deputy job 3 yrs ago. Any chance of getting another job in the field?
Three years ago I was fired from my corrections officer job for being late three times during my probationary period. I worked a lot of overtime on a voluntary basis with the goal of learning about every post at the justice center. It would go over the radio and I would snatch it up. This contributed to my being late. I do take responsibility for being late. I was on for just one month after graduating from the academy. I was very enthusiastic about this job and had many goals set. This was truly a personal tragedy for me. Sob story aside, I have since held another non law enforcement job and I am currently attending college majoring in criminal justice. The sheriffs office I worked for in Cincinnati,Ohio has quite an influence in the area so getting a job there is basically a no go. I currently reside in El Paso,Texas. I have absolutely no criminal record aside from a couple of speeding tickets from high school. I am 28 now. I have been reluctant to apply for another LE job due to being fired from this one. I am wondering if this single incident has destroyed any chance of getting back in the game. Law enforcement and public safety is a true calling for me. If anybody has any insight to share I am all ears. Thanks Brandon

That was three years ago. It will not keep you from getting hired. It will be a hurdle but you can get hired. Apply and get into the hiring process, when asked about your separation from the other agency be honest about what happened. Tell the new agency that it was three years ago and you have learned from that experience. Point out that you have held down other jobs and that you are willing to do whatever it takes to succeed this time around. Be positive.
2 :
I don't have any personal experience in this area, but in my opinion, the reason you were fired is very minor. It's not like you were fired for abusing inmates, stealing, dealing drugs, etc. You were younger then, and I think with your new schooling, you've a good chance of landing a job in law enforcement.

You spell like that and you're on the Honor Roll? How about those Texans, huh? You might be suspended from play, class or some other school activity you enjoy and you'll likely do some community service. That's criminal portion of consequences. The school/school board/district may also want to sue your parents in tort. Depends on your record and whether they might want to make an example of you. Start practising a hang-dog look of extreme contrition. Say sorry a LOT and let loose the tears, you scurrilous young villain. Next time you think it would be fun to destroy something you haven't paid a cent for, open a Latin text and do 15 pages of translation of Homer's Odyssey. Whatever happens, take your punishment like a man - a very penitent man.

It all depends upon your career field. Not every job is available at every base. And, it all comes down to where the AF needs you, not where you want to be. After basic, you'll go to Tech School. At somepoint during tech school they will let you know what bases are available for you. You then list the bases in order. All of the sheets go in, and they pick and choose where you get to go. It may be a base in Texas or it may be in Washington state or it may be in Germany. You have no control over that. Just FYI, there is no base in El Paso. West Texas you have Dyess (Abilene), Laughlin (Del Rio), and Goodfellow (San Angelo)
2 :
there are no Air Force bases in El Paso Texas. and no you can't pick the base you want to be at. you can request a certain base and maybe get it if you are needed there because of your job. if you wan to be in El Paso then join the army. they have a base there.
3 :
Nope, now adays, when you go in since EVERYONE is doing it, chances are no, you will not get stationed in Texas, btw, no base is El Paso. You will be stationed probably anywhere but texas :) thats just how it works. But you get great pay, health benefits, and great retirement. Check out this link, it is what the Air Force is about. Look at the base locator too. You can see just how many air force bases are scattered around the united states and european countries. www.airforce.com As for waiting for a house, depends on where you are and how lucky you are. Like I said, married couples have it easy, married couples who are both in the AF even luckier. single men and women, will most likely live on base. BUT if you are lucky you will live off base (AFTER BASIC AND TECH SCHOOL) and you will be given a houing allowance so that you can pay for your apartment, ect.

first if you really love your mom and you really can't spend a day without her.. then go to your mom's house... but if you can't handle being without your friends... inspite of your mom... you can ask your mom NICELY that you should go back to mexico... so that you'll be happy together with everyone and not only woth your mom but with everyone...
2 :
i think u should stay with your mom because u will eventually make some friends and sooner or later start a relationship......u cant really judge a place over the summer u have to give it time....staying with your mom would be the right and best thing to do....u could visit your friends..boyfriend...and grandparents every now and then!
3 :
you are comfortable where you are, and change is a big thing new friends new schools, but you should look at it as a challange, as for your mum, you have a great relationship with her, and no matter whatever happens she will always be there for you...but remember it is a sad life without a mum..... you can have all the relatives and friends around you, but you will always miss your mum.... give it a try and if after 6months you still feel the same then go back.....
4 :
Grandparents are great I'd stay because your mom has made a choice and I don't think you should have to mess up your life to follow. Do what's right for you.
5 :
You really need to sit and decide what it is that you want. If you are almost done with school then just tough it out until you graduate and then go with your mom because it wont be easy to get use to a new state, new town, and new high school. Dont start all over if you are almosot done with high school. TOUGH IT OUT!!!!
6 :
Maybe you could live with your mother and go back to your grand-parents for your school holidays?
7 :
i dont no how old you are but if you dont like it there you should probably stay i no this would hurt your mum but you have school holidays long weekends to go there and spend time with her, if your not to young then you will be moving out of home soon, an if u go you will b in a place were your not happy doin that, taLK to your mum and she will understand whatever you choose and be happy with that shes your mum
8 :
Well, I can only say, follow your heart, I my self would stay with my mother, as i see life isnt so long, its very short, but its best if you follow what you think is best,, oh dont think just because your mexican that if you move they wouldnt get along with you, or be your friend, in fact i know many mexicans in my area and we all get along fine,, if fact many are very hard working people. So dont worrie about the race thing, i know, i dont, and im sicilian, its hard for me to find them in my area, but i get along with everyone.. i wish you luck....
9 :
that is a hard Q but i'd have to say go with your mom because she'll always be there for you and after time you'll fit in and probly love living there and if you don't you can always go back right?
10 :
I think that you should stay b/c of school, stay with your grandparents, given the fact that you are still in school & got most of your life in El Paso, but then again you want to be with your mom? so it's confusing & a hard decision but your education is more important. Moving around while still in school is hard b/c you have to transfer. You said you've already experienced Alexandria & did not like it. So, there's your answer right there. See to it that you stay & complete High School (tell your mom that) then after you graduate you will decide then if you want to live with her while you go to college. You can always keep in touch with you mom while she's gone, phone her, email her or visit her during the holidays, vice versa.
11 :
i'm from College Station,Texas. Are there any reletives that could take you in? Or could you stay with a real good trusting family? Sit down and have a heart to heart, mother to daughter talk and tell your mommy haow you feel. It could'nt hurt to try.
12 :
You have to decide whats more important. I would go with my mom because there is always things like myspace or just calling up my freinds to stay in touch. Maybe you havent made freinds because its summer, I know that I usually dont make new freinds untill I start school.
